Lock Change & Rekey Surrey

Surrey · BC
New key.Same door.

Just moved into a Surrey townhouse in Newton, had a key go missing, or finished a tenancy? A lock change or rekey in Surrey gets your locks under your control today — mobile tech comes to you, no waiting at a shop.

When you move into a home in Surrey — whether it's a Guildford strata, a South Surrey detached, or a Cloverdale townhouse — you have no way of knowing who else holds a copy of the current key. A rekey or a full lock change fixes that in under an hour, without needing to replace your hardware.

Rekeying changes the internal pins inside your existing lock cylinder so the old key no longer works and a new key is cut to match. It costs less than buying new hardware and achieves exactly the same security outcome. A lock change makes sense when the hardware itself is worn, damaged, low-grade, or simply not what you want — we supply and fit Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolts and handle sets to BC building code.

What's included

  • On-site assessment — we check the condition of your existing hardware before recommending rekey vs. replace
  • Rekeying of deadbolts and/or knob/lever sets to a single new working key (one key fits all, by default)
  • Supply and installation of new deadbolts or handle sets when a lock change is the right call
  • Key duplication on-site — extra copies cut to the new bitting while we're there
  • Master key pinning for landlords, strata councils, and property managers who need tiered access
  • Security grade consultation — we'll tell you honestly whether your current hardware is worth keeping
  • Door alignment check included at no extra charge — a sticking door causes premature wear on any lock

How it works

01

Call or book online

Tell us the number of doors, your general address in Surrey, and whether you want a rekey or a lock change. We quote a range on the call — no obligation.

02

Tech arrives at your door

A licensed mobile locksmith comes to your Surrey address, inspects the hardware, confirms the scope, and gives you a final price before touching anything.

03

Locks rekeyed or replaced

Most single-door jobs take 20–40 minutes. We hand you the new keys on-site, test every lock, and clean up before we leave.

Rekey or change? How to decide in Surrey

Surrey has an enormous range of housing stock — from older mid-century homes in Whalley with original 1960s hardware to brand-new strata buildings in Fleetwood and Clayton Heights with modern lever sets. The right call depends on the hardware you have.

Rekey if: your deadbolt is a recognised brand (Schlage, Kwikset, Weiser, Yale), it's in good working condition, and the cylinder hasn't been drilled, forced, or compromised. Rekeying is cheaper and faster, and the security outcome is the same — the old key is dead.

Replace if: your lock is a no-brand builder-grade unit, visibly worn or stiff, a knob-only setup with no deadbolt, or you want to upgrade to Grade 1 security. Surrey building code for exterior residential doors requires a deadbolt with a minimum 25 mm bolt throw — a lot of older hardware in the city doesn't meet that standard.

Lock change and rekey for Surrey landlords and strata

Tenant changeovers in Surrey are one of the most common reasons we get called. BC tenancy law doesn't prohibit changing locks between tenancies — it's standard practice to protect new renters and limit landlord liability. We work efficiently with property managers across Newton, Guildford, and Fleetwood who need multiple units turned around on the same day. For strata buildings that manage common-area access, we can also rekey or pin master key systems so a single master key works for the strata manager while individual suite keys are separate.

Call ahead and let us know it's a multi-unit job — we'll bring a selection of cylinders and hardware to minimise extra trips.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a rekey take?
A single deadbolt rekey typically takes 15–25 minutes once the tech is on-site. A full house rekey of three to five locks usually runs 45–75 minutes depending on hardware type. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when you book.
Do I need to buy a new lock to get rekeyed?
No. Rekeying works with your existing lock cylinder — we change the internal pin tumblers so the old key no longer functions and cut a new key to match. You only need new hardware if your current lock is too worn, non-rekeyable, or below the security grade you want.
Can you rekey all my doors to the same key?
Yes — that's called keying alike, and it's the most common request we get. As long as all your locks are the same brand or brand-compatible cylinders, we can pin them to a single key. If you have mixed brands, we may need to swap a cylinder or two to make it work.
I just moved into a Surrey rental. Should I rekey or change the locks?
Most new tenants opt for a rekey — it's the fastest and most economical way to ensure the previous tenant's key no longer works. If the landlord won't authorise it, BC tenancy rules give tenants the right to change locks with written notice to the landlord and providing a copy of the new key. We can advise you on the right approach for your situation.
What lock brands do you carry for lock changes?
We stock Schlage and Kwikset Grade 1 and Grade 2 deadbolts as standard, plus Weiser and Yale on request. For higher-security applications — restricted keyways, pick-resistant cylinders — we can source Medeco and Mul-T-Lock. We'll recommend what's appropriate for your door type and budget.

Yes. We cover the entire City of Surrey including Newton, Guildford, Fleetwood, Cloverdale, South Surrey, City Centre, Clayton Heights, Panorama Ridge, Sullivan, and Port Kells, as well as White Rock, Langley, Delta, and surrounding communities in the south Fraser valley.
